ST. LOUIS – Fences still surround Washington Square Park at St. Louis City Hall. There has been a lot of confusion for the people living outside city hall this week, beginning with an eviction notice."We moved (the people) because it was unsafe and unhealthy. HAZELWOOD, Mo. – A 31-year-old man who broke into a woman’s apartment while she was in the hospital faces charges after being found drinking a margarita in her kitchen. Nearby residents said they noticed similarities with other break-ins that happened early Tuesday morning."They went inside the residence; they encountered a gentleman there sitting in the kitchen, against the wall, drinking a margarita," Lt. The man accused of killing 17-year-old Riley Whitelaw in a Colorado Springs Walgreens breakroom in June 2022 was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday.A jury found Joshua Johnson guilty of first-degree murder, and 4th Judicial District Court Judge Eric Bentley sentenced Johnson to life in prison on Wednesday, 4th Judicial District Attorney Michael Allen said at a news conference.Whitelaw and Johnson, 29, were coworkers at Walgreens in the 6800 block of Centennial Boulevard. Yet again, Southern Californians are feeling the heat as offshore flow combines with a high-pressure system to bring warm and dry weather through Thursday, and a moderate Santa Ana wind event through Friday that will keep temperatures well above normal, the National Weather Service reported. Inland temperatures, according to KTLA Weatherman Kaj Goldberg, are forecast to be in the uppers 90s to low triple digits. As the weak Santa Ana winds move into SoCal, keeping up the heat all the way through the weekend, air quality is also expected to diminish with the hot, dry winds. Homicide detectives are investigating an alleged murder-suicide in Long Beach between a man and a woman believed to be married, authorities announced on Wednesday. Officers with the Long Beach Police Department responded to the 5600 block of Corso Di Napoli, near West Neapolitan Lane, at around 6:30 a.m. in the Naples neighborhood of Long Beach Wednesday for a welfare check of an elderly couple who were not answering their phone or front door, according to a LBPD news release. After entering the home, police discovered an elderly female with a gunshot wound to the upper body, as well as an elderly male with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the upper body. Medical personnel with the Long Beach Fire Department responded and declared both the man and the woman dead at the scene. A man was arrested after leading officers on a pursuit with a stolen RV trailer in Riverside on Wednesday.The suspect was identified as Mark Vaughn, 52, by the Riverside Police Department.Officers responded to an RV theft in the Canyon Crest neighborhood around 4:50 a.m.Vaughn was allegedly stealing an RV trailer from someone’s driveway at the time, police said. A neighbor who witnessed the theft said Vaughn didn’t realize he was being watched at the time.The neighbor called the police and followed Vaughn as he drove away with the stolen trailer.Police eventually spotted the stolen trailer going down Chicago Avenue to Central Avenue. Kaiser Permanente workers across eight states chose to go on a 3-day labor strike Wednesday morning.Representing more than 75,000 employees, the Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions (CKPU) gave notice of the strike on Sept. 22, accusing the California-based medical group of unfair labor practices and bad-faith bargaining.“Frontline healthcare workers are awaiting a meaningful response from Kaiser executives regarding some of our key priorities including safe staffing, outsourcing protections for incumbent healthcare workers, and fair wages to reduce turnover,” CKPU spokesperson Caroline Lucas said in a statement. “Healthcare workers within the coalition remain ready to meet at any time.
