1 missing, multiple people injured after boat crash on Lake Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin-Travis County EMS responded to Lake Austin Sunday evening after a boat ran aground. Officials said seven people total were involved in the incident, including a teenager who is missing and was unable to be found.Two patients were transported to the hospital with serious injuries, an additional two were transported with potentially serious injuries and there were two transport refusals at the scene. Officials added in a follow-up social media post the situation had been switched to a recovery effort for the missing person. Ken Campbell, assistant chief of the CE-Bar Fire Department, said the single-boat crash happened after a boat went over the wake of another boat and lost control. Then, the boat hit the bank of Lake Austin where at least one patient was ejected. He could not confirm if the passengers were wearing life jackets. The district starts the year having scored a "C" during its 2022 state assessment. While school progress stood out as an area of achievement, the score for STAAR Performance struggled. AUSTIN (KXAN) – Since the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in November 2022, artificial intelligence, or AI, usage has skyrocketed. As a new academic year rapidly approaches for The University of Texas at Austin, faculty are working to balance fostering a learning environment with AI while preventing cheating among college students.“I don’t think we can just say ‘don’t use it’ and assume students won’t use it,” said Ken Fleishmann, the founding chair of Good Systems. AUSTIN (KXAN) – The Pedernales Electric Co-op reported 3,000 customers were without power in far south Austin early Monday morning. According to its website, the power outage covered most of the Olympic Heights neighborhood west of Menchaca Road and north of FM 1626. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. - Drivers will soon see at least three lanes on Interstate 70 across the entire state of Missouri.The new legislation will expand I-70 across the entire state to at least three lanes. Governor Mike Parson introduced the plan earlier this year, and he was in Foristell Monday for the ceremonial signing of House Bill 4.The project will start in Wentzville. The work is expected to ease congestion on the heavily traveled interstate between St. Louis and Kansas City. It's a 200-mile stretch of I-70 that'll start in St. Charles County and go all the way to Blue Springs, which is just outside K-C.The bill Governor Parson signed is a nearly $3 billion plan to expand the stretch of I-70 from two lanes to three. Her husband is a Ritenour High School alum and works as a property manager on the islands.On Tuesday, the place they've called home went up in flames, along with the rest of Lahaina, in the deadliest United States wildfire in a century.Joy evacuated her home on Tuesday, along with her 80-year-old father-in-law and her dog.
